"The day I wished I would have stayed home" By:
Michael Long
January
11th of this year, decided to do some hunting . After stopping at the Farm
Store for some coffee and spare batteries, I was on
my way. My wife and I only have one car, so I had her
drop me off so she could have the car if she needed
it. I grabbed my detector out of the back, and headed
up into the woods. 20 minutes into the hunt, I get a
low battery alert. No problem, I thought, I bought fresh
batteries this morning. I reached into my pack, and
couldn't find the spares. Then I remembered, I left
the bag with the batteries in the car. It's 9 AM, and
my wife isn't due to pick me up until 1 PM. Luckily,
I had fresh batteries in my digital camera, so I took
the 4 batteries ( Minelabs need 8), and rotated them
around so I could keep hunting (Word to the wise, this
is not a good idea, all batteries should be replaced,
not a couple. Heat generated by batteries can cause
them to explode). Did end up with the 1841 Large Cent,
and the gold plated cufflink. Lesson learned... double
check my spare batteries before heading into the field.

"Lesson
Learned" By:
Connie Long
I went with my husband last week to help him find
(hunt)
some foundations. Mike turned on his GPS, and took off in the woods before it
had a chance to lock on to the Satellites.
We walked 1/2
mile before he
realized we were on the wrong side of the cove. We had to turn around, and
head back to where we started. After crossing a stream, we were on our way.
We
eventually found the foundations, and all I dug
was a potted meat can. A
1/2 mile walk turned into a 3 mile walk when we eventually got back to the
car.
Lesson Learned:
Never follow my husband in the woods when he has no
idea where he is going, GPS or no GPS.
