TREASURE HUNTER'S CODE OF ETHICS

  • Before Searching public sites, always check laws, ordinances, or regulations that may govern your search.

  • Never trespass. Always get permission when searching private property.

  • Never leave open holes. Leave the search area exactly as it was before your searching.

  • Report the discovery of any items of significant historical value to the local historian, museum, or archaeological society.

  • If you discover live ammo or any lethal object or substance, do not touch it. Mark the site and notify authorities at once.

  • Be polite and informative to those who inquire about your sport/hobby. You are the ambassador of a pastime we want to protect, and we will be judged by how you act and respond.


CITY AND COUNTY PARKS

  • Permits are required if you wish to hunt city or county parks. These are obtained through local city or county park offices.


BALTIMORE CITY PARKS METAL DETECTING REGULATIONS

  • Observe all existing laws, whether national, state or local, and respect posted areas.

  • Don't destroy, damage, or deface public or private property, or what is left of a structure.

  • Don't dig at a depth lower than 6 inches without contacting the District Superintendent of Parks for permission.

  • Don't rebury unwanted items or leave litter lying around after you leave.

  • Fill in all holes and leave surface as you found it with leaves, sod, etc., on top.

  • Conduct yourself in a courteous and polite manner, and have consideration for others.
